1. Is the pricing published and size-based?
A trustworthy detailer shows real prices before you call. Look for clear tiers priced by vehicle size, the way a maintenance wash starts at $99, an interior detail at $189, and a full detail at $289. If the only way to learn a price is to hand over your phone number and wait for a callback, ask why.
Published pricing protects you because it sets the expectation in writing before anyone touches your car. It is the single best predictor of an honest shop.
2. Will the price change in my driveway?
The classic DFW scam is the teaser quote. You are told one number on the phone, then the price doubles once the detailer is at your house and your car is the hostage. Ask directly: is the published price the price, and what happens if my car needs more work?
The honest answer is that any extra work, like heavy pet hair or a deep odor treatment, is named and approved by you before it starts, at a published rate. A vague we will see when we get there is a red flag.
3. Do they photograph proof?
Good work survives a close look. A detailer who is proud of the result will take before-and-after photos and a sunlight walkaround on every job and share them with you. Proof you can inspect beats a result you only get described.
If a shop cannot show you documented examples of their own work, not stock images, be cautious.
4. Is there a real guarantee?
Ask what happens if something is not right. A real guarantee means the detailer comes back to fix it within a stated window, fast and without an argument. A handshake and a hope is not a guarantee.

5. Do they come to you?
